Parks & Trails

Most of Melissa's public green space is new, built alongside the subdivisions, and it is anchored by a growing city park system.

Downtown & History

The oldest part of Melissa sits along Cooper Street, where a handful of buildings survived the 1921 tornado, and the city is in the middle of rebuilding the district around them.

The 1921 Tornado Survivors

An April 1921 tornado destroyed most of the young town and killed 13 people. A few structures lived through it, including the old bank building on Cooper Street and the Barker House — the closest thing Melissa has to a view of its pre-boom self.
